Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

What is it?

Since 1662, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been used to treat various medical conditions. Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy, often abbreviated as mHBOT, is a non-invasive and less intense form of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Unlike traditional HBOT, which is typically administered in a high-pressure chamber, mHBOT takes place in a comfortable soft chamber designed to provide a lower level of pressure. During an mHBOT session, patients breathe pure oxygen and the atmospheric pressure inside is slightly increased, typically around 1.3 atmospheres absolute (ATA).

The concept behind mHBOT is to increase the oxygen concentration in the body’s tissues and cells, promoting various potential health benefits. mHBOT is considered a safer and more accessible option for most individuals compared to traditional HBOT, carrying significantly less risk of complications such as oxygen poisoning, vision changes, and sinus and lung damage.

What are some of the benefits?

  1. Anti-aging by improved cellular metabolism and lengthened telomeres.

  2. Reduced pain & inflammation by suppressing inflammatory markers.

  3. Improved and optimized sleep.

  4. Tissue and skin cell repair.

  5. Improved cognitive function, memory recall and consolidation -- and reduced cognitive decline.

  6. Improved immune response and increased white blood cell production.

  7. Enhanced performance: improve exercise performance and speed up recovery from injuries.

Multiple sessions are required to achieve optimal outcomes. In most cases, you will start to see results after about 5 sessions, but more sessions are required to fully realize the benefits and get lasting results.

What should I expect?

Our technician will fit you with an oxygen cannula (a hose that rests against your nostrils) and slowly pressurize the chamber as your mHBOT session begins. You might experience a slight popping sensation in your ears, similar to the feeling during an airplane’s takeoff or landing. To equalize the pressure, you can swallow, yawn, or gently exhale against a closed mouth and pinched nose to help relieve any discomfort.

When the chamber reaches operating pressure, all you need to do is relax and breathe normally, allowing the oxygen to circulate through your body. Many people read, use their phone or tablet, or listen to music during the session to pass the time enjoyably.

As your session concludes, the pressure inside the chamber gradually returns to normal. You may again experience a slight popping sensation in your ears. Once the pressure has equalized, we open the chamber and you can begin enjoying the benefits!
